The luck of the draw
Tue/Jun/2009 12:09 PM
This week we witness Australia’s biggest ever lotto
draw. The prize of close to $100,000,000 prize
represents about 55% of money “invested” by many
thousands of people. I have certainly felt swayed by
the “You’ve got to be in it to win it!” argument but
so far have resisted.
On the other hand many ordinary Australians have parted with nearly $200 million in the hope of “getting lucky”.
A few might share the prize but the vast majority are poorer than ever. This at a time when many people are struggling financially.
What does this say about our human values and behaviour? With odds of 45 million to one, it cannot be about rational common-sense. My guess is that it is mainly about the excitement and the dream. And I get that. Unfortunately I suspect that these good things are also mixed with a fair amount of greed which is not so good!
But what if you could get the excitement and the dream without the greed ..........and from a sure thing?
God’s Kingdom feeds the exciting dream of a better world.
But “you’ve still got to be in it to win it!”
