Practice makes perfect

The other day three of our grandsons ( 5yrs, 4yrs & 2yrs) came for a sleep-over.
These guys are full of life! It takes us a couple of days to recover but we always have a great time with them. Patrick (5yrs) goes full on into every new thing he learns and on this occasion it was paper folding (origami). He learned how to make a paper boat! The process has a “dah, dah” moment in which the boat seems to suddenly appear from nothing and this had him absolutely intrigued. We had to go through the steps together more than a dozen times until he “got it”. Then he made at least 20 more because “I don’t want to forget how to do it”. In the end he could churn out a boat in about 30sec, (although the quality control went downhill a bit)! The final thrill was to take his boats down to Wamberal Lake and discover that they actually floated!
The key thing that impressed me was Patrick’s determination to keep practising until he could do it without any help. I am sure that if this characteristic flows into other areas of his life, it will stand him in good stead. Maybe I should take note of this as well!
