Devotion costs extra
Thu/Jun/2009 09:23 AM
This week I visited the RTA to renew a registration.
I took a ticket and sat down to wait for my number to
come up.
Right in front of me was a large sign advertising the fact that NRL team number plates were available.
It was the wording that intrigued me: “ NRL PLATES FOR THE TOTALLY DEVOTED”, it read.
For the next few minutes these thoughts ran through my mind:
It is OK to like footy but “devoted” ? Isn’t that word normally associated with much more worthy causes?
Maybe I could stretch to accept that some fans may be “devoted” but “TOTALLY devoted” ??
Then I discovered that this “total devotion” comes at a hefty cost. It costs to buy the plates AND it costs an annual fee!
That puts the devotion to the test doesn’t it!
Two big questions:
“Shouldn’t I be more devoted to the cause of Christ than any fan to the NRL?
“What cost will I pay that accurately reflects my devotion?”
